RefWorks


What is RefWork?

 

Managing information, writing research papers and creating bibliographies has always been a time-consuming, complex task, often involving the use of different systems and applications. RefWorks makes this a problem of the past. RefWorks provides users with a simple to use online tool, to capture, organize, store, share, and manipulate data generated by multiple information resources. The continued introduction of new features within the service, such as a RSS feed reader and RefShare, a tool for the web dissemination and publication of databases, expands upon the services integration of the newest technologies in order to support researchers with effective tools.

 

RefWorks enables you to:

  • Organize your research
  • Include citations while you write your paper
  • Build a bibliography in a variety of formats (e.g. Harvard, APA etc. RefWorks has an extensive format collection from different journals)
  • Import references from many data sources (Online databases, web pages, text files, other bibliographical managers, manually, RSS feeds)
  • Create bibliographies in different document formats (Word, RTF, HTML, etc.)

How can I access RefWorks?

 

  • Click HERE  for direct access to RefWorks.  
  • First time users need to create an Individual Account, but first you will need a GROUP CODE for access. Ask your librarian for assistance.
  • Once the account is created, you will receive an e-mail confirming your registration. 
  • RefWorks is accessible from any computer with Internet access, but can go directly to: http://www.refworks.com 
  • RefWorks is available 24/7

What is RefShare?

RefShare is a module within RefWorks that provides users with a quick and easy way to share their database (or folders) further enhancing collaborative research. Users can share their RefWorks references with both members of their own institution and globally with any researcher having Internet access.

 

Uses of RefShare

  • Post class reading lists on a central Web page

  • Provide easy access to information for disparate researchers collaborating on a project

  • Create and share databases of frequently-requested reference queries by topic

  • Provide a linkable database of research done by specific faculty members

  • Facilitate dissemination of information by having a central Web page for the posting and access of research information
  • Provide a collaborative research environment using the capabilities of easily accessible data via the Internet
