The databases below are the most relevant resources, which you can use to start your search for Journal Articles, Conference Proceedings, Reviews, Electronic books, Standards, Patents, etc.

 

REMOTE ACCESS is available to all the databases. Just log-in with your SURNAME, STUDENT/STAFF NUMBER, PIN. Learn how to create PIN.

 

Remember!

  • By searching the databases, you search for a JOURNALS ARTICLES.
  • When searching CASE: A-to-Z Journals, you search for JOURNALS TITLES
  •  For in-depth research on a topic start with these Bibliographic Databases: CABI Databases, Science Citation Index, Africa-Wide: Nipad, Water Resources Worldwide, etc.
  •  If you look for full-text articles to complete your assignment or project, then search any of these databases: JSTOR, ScienceDirect, SpringerLink, Wiley Interscience, Academic Search Premier, Academic OneFile.

SCIENCES SEARCH ENGINES & SEARCHABLE WEB RESOURCES


Search Across multiple Publishers to find references for your research: 

 

  • AJOL: African Journals Online (Peer-reviewed African Published Scholarly Journals)

  • BASE - Bielefeld Academic Search Engine: This multi-disciplinary search engine focuses on academic research

  • CiteSeer.IST: This search engine and digital library will help you find information within scientific literature

  • Entrez: Entrez is the integrated, text-based search and retrieval system used at NCBI for the major databases, including PubMed, Nucleotide and Protein Sequences, Protein Structures, Complete Genomes, Taxonomy, and others. Entrez is the Life Sciences Search Engine.

  • Google Scholar: Meta Search Engine across multiple academic publishers; abstracts + full-text

  • Hakia: Semantic search engine only accesses websites that are recommended by librarians

  • HighWirePress (Hosts the largest repository of high impact, peer-reviewed content)

  • Lumifi: For your Research (tools to annotate, organize, manage, share and eventually publish your research)

  • OAIster (Search for digital items with this tool that provides 12 million resources from over 800 repositories)
  • Open Science Directory: A-to-Z Open Access Journals (incl. DOAJ, BioMed Central, PubMed Central, HighWire Press, HINARI, AGORA, OARE, eJDS.
